This book Surf Cafe Living has been on my wish list for a while and yet I never clicked it home. Why? No clue, but when fellow blogger Style Spy was having a giveaway of this book, I gave it a shot and otherwise I really needed to buy it myself after reading her review. Even though my changes were slim, I won and two weeks ago it dropped on my doormat and I haven’t stopped reading since.
It’s the second book of surfers and authors Jane and Myles Lamberth, a couple living the coastal life at its best on the west coast of Ireland. They own a seaside cafe named ‘Shells’ and after the release of their first book ‘The Surf Café Cookbook’, they bought a little rundown cottage and transformed it into their dream home. It’s a peek in to the journey they have been through with their cottage where food plays an important role in their homey life. In this book they not only share their easy-to-make recipes using fresh, simple and seasonal ingredients, but also how to create your own laidback home with emphasis on the surf lifestyle, the sea and entertainment. An open house for friends and family.
It starts with a glance into the lovely rebuild cottage just a stone’s throw of the beach. Jane and Myles really wanted to embrace the life outdoors. Proof of that are for example the huge windows looking into their big garden, the open fireplace and the specially made shed which harbors all the wetsuits and surfboards. But let’s not forget the interior: the kitchen is very spacious (complete jealousy over here!) and the centre of their home with an open space leading to the dining room with its large wooden table where you can sit for hours. And you know what they say about one man’s junk: the way they re-used some of the materials found is just really inspiring and very surf lifestyle worthy.
The rest of the book is divided into the four seasons. In each chapter they tell something about the surroundings and activities you can do (Surfing! Cycling!). Furthermore they share some up- or recycling DIY’s to decorate your interior with. And ofcourse with each different season come different recipes supported with beautiful and mouthwatering photos.
So if you are into the surf lifestyle or good food, you should really get this book. I should have gotten it myself way earlier! You can get it here and let me know what you think of it. And Evey thank you again! Best thing I won.
